Donoussa

Population: 167 (2011)

ISLAND OVERVIEW

Donoussa is one of the smallest islands of the Cyclades, located 16 km (10 mi) east of the island of Naxos

The centre of activity is Chora (or Stavros), the main village and port of the island. Stavros has a lively, yet relaxed atmosphere and is where you’ll find most of the island’s taverns, bars, restaurants, shops, and amenities. Moving away from Chora, you’ll discover tiny traditional villages and wild natural landscapes worth exploring.

Other villages include Mersini (on the southeastern coast), Kalotaritissa (near its northern coastline) and Charavgi (in the south).

The beaches of Donoussa have nothing to do with their crowded Cycladic counterparts. They are mostly unorganized, secluded and remote. One of the best secluded Donoussa beaches is Kedros beach, a popular free camping spot.

Due to its distance from Athens, the ferry only comes three times a week, although links to other islands are more readily available.
