ISLAND OVERVIEW
Folegandros is a small island that, together with Sikinos, Ios, Anafi and Santorini, forms the southern part of the Cyclades. It’s surface area is 32 square km (12 sq mi). The landscape is narrow, barren and mountainous with tall cliffs. On the southern side of the island, there are a couple of sea caves to explore, such as the Cave of Georgitsi and Chrissospilia (Golden Cave) with precious stalactites and stalagmites.
The “capital” of the island, Chora, is built on the edge of a 200-metre high cliff, above which sits the beautiful whitewashed Panagia church, the trademark of Folegandros.
The port of Folegandros is in the small village of Karavostasis. The Ano Meria village contains a small but interesting Ecological and Folklore Museum.
Katergo beach is used by naturists.
The island is sparsely populated but numbers swell in the Summer months with tourists.
Ferries from Folegandros to Mykonos and Santorini depart daily from the island’s port.
