REGION OVERVIEW
Also known as the Thracian Sporades, the Northern most island group in the Aegean sits with the three legs of Thessaloniki to the West, Mainland Greece to the North and Turkey to the East. A semi-arbitrary complex of Greek islands, remote yet easily reached by plane or ferry. You will come across many of these Greek islands in mythology or the classic tales of Homer. A rich history, beautiful beaches and very strong local flavours, yet relatively undiscovered.
Samothaki, is known for the Temple of the Great Gods, which in Ancient times was famous as a Panhellenic Religious Centre. In the book of Acts the Apostle Paul sailed from Troas to Samothrace (Samothaki) and spent one night there on his way to Macedonia.
A very green island due to its forests, Thassos is steeped in history and has many archelogical sites of interest. It is also known for producing marble.
Agios Efstatios has been a prison island for many years however it still houses around 300 inhabitants.
